When an active shooter fired at a dog in Boise, Idaho, social media was the reason why people knew to stay clear of the area and not get themselves in any danger. After the incident happened, many people sent our Tweets and Facebook posts regarding the dangerous man and alerted others to stay clear from the area. For example, one citizen tweeted “Active shooter in Boise Foothills. @BoisePD what can you tell us? Stay clear of Crestline Ridge and Hulls Gulch in general.” If I was the head of the social media management team for the Boise Police Department, I would post on all social media sites saying “Potential shooter in Boise Foothills. Stay clear of the premises, stay updated we will let you know when all is clear.” I would send this message via Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and any other social networking site the Police Department has their own site of. I would post these posts as fast as possible, and keep the audience updated with what has been going on in Foothills. As soon as the coast is clear, I would let the audience know as well, so those who planned on visiting were well aware. I would stay on top of all of the updates and express them on each social media page, so the people following the page see that the Police Department has a passion to keep the people safe by using social media to their advantage.
